A Splash of Color in Santa Barbara

I just found a post about this beautiful waterfront installation in Santa Barbara, Calif., and couldn’t take my eyes off of it. “Runaway” is a collection of steel-rod structures that are adaptable depending on the location and desired use. According to Arch Daily, “The pavilion invites communities to view and interact with their surroundings in a new light—encouraging residents and artists alike to consider how contemporary art can activate public space.”

“Runaway” was conceived and designed by SPORTS, a multidisciplinary architecture and design collaborative based in Syracuse, N.Y. Their website is a lot of fun to sift through. Their projects inspire activity, amusement and curiosity. Looking at the above images of these cyan, magenta and yellow structures, I can only see possibilities on Buffalo’s waterfront. It would be so cool to collaborate with SPORTS on a large-scale installation like this!
