Branding Boxcraft Studio

Earlier this year, Block Club was approached by our longtime friend and collaborator Candice Urban-Green of Boxcraft Studio to develop the company’s brand, marketing collateral, and website. As a full-service interior and architectural design studio, Boxcraft offers its clients a world of creative vision and strategic planning from concept through execution. Ultimately, for its clients, Boxcraft brings to life one of the most critical components of any business: its physical space.

The Brand Identity Design Process

For Boxcraft, we sought to develop a streamlined identity system that would capture the technical expertise behind its interior design services–the thinking being that a minimal design that would allow the company’s work to shine. The resulting custom wordmark is light and compact with friendly letterforms and softened corners and ending on a ligature that signifies collaboration and high-touch service.

Surrounding the wordmark is an unclosed box with two openings, evoking several key elements of the brand story:

  • Motion and collaboration
  • A room with doors in an architectural plan
  • The experience of entering a space
  • Outside-the-box thinking
  • The transformation of an environment as an evolution—a project that is completed but never closed

Collateral Design Considerations

To complement the pared-down identity, we chose a bright salmon pink to wash the brand in an eye-catching, single-color palette—a nod to Boxcraft’s vibrant and bold approach to design. Simplicity was top-of-mind as we developed the collateral and website, employing a single sans-serif typeface in a variety of weights to create a straightforward and professional design system that allows Boxcraft’s case studies to take center stage.

We finished the collateral with high-quality printing on quality paper, including an antique gray envelope for a surprising contrast to the pop of pink. Boxcraft is an excellent example of how a few simple elements—a professional identity, thoughtful typography, and a single, unexpected color—can come together to create a memorable brand that puts personality forward.
