Block Club’s Must-Follow Instagram Accounts
As a branding and strategy agency made up of creative individuals, our team is encouraged and delighted to keep our collective eyes peeled for interesting work. Instagram is a wonderful place to discover and follow other creative talents who curate images that are beautiful, innovative and, sometimes, literally out of this world.
We challenged each of our teammates to pick one Instagram account that they love and share why they were inspired to click the “follow” button. Take a look at Block Club’s favorite Instagrammers, and make sure to follow @BlockClub on Instagram, too.
“Matija Erceg makes images of everyday objects merged with food (often meat) and puts them against assaulting RGB backgrounds. That’s it. Since almost all of the Instagram accounts I follow are designers, stylists, illustrators or outdoors enthusiasts posting ridiculously beautiful landscapes, @seriousdesign tends to stand out. It’s always bizarre and makes me laugh every time and I especially love the bio ‘Good design for serious people.’ Right.” – Julie, designer
“Cereal magazine creative director Rich Stapleton’s Instagram feed is full of stunning captures from his travels. A beautiful building; a cup of coffee; a quiet moment in a hotel room where the sunlight is just right; a foggy horizon; a great chair. His photos are calming and endlessly inspiring.” – Brandon, creative director
“I recently started following photographer Ernesto Roman, who not only posts stunning images, but posts them in succession so that they form a larger image when you view his profile page. Every time I see a string of seemingly strange photos I rush to his profile to see the result.” – Pat, project manager
“I love Theron Humphrey’s Instagram! He posts the most beautiful, crisp photos of his adventures with this dog. His coonhound, Maddie, is also extremely photogenic—she manages to close her eyes in just about every photo! It makes me want to grab my dog and get out there!” – Laura, design intern
“A long-time favorite of mine is Chris Ozer. It doesn’t matter what the subject matter is that he’s capturing. All of his photos are beautiful and really stop me in my tracks as I’m scrolling through my feed.” – Steve, project manager
“I came across the account for Hollywood screenwriter and producer Jhoni Marchinko (“Will & Grace,” “Murphy Brown,” “Looking”) and haven’t stopped laughing since. Her ability to be so flippin’ blasé about Los Angeles, along with her unexplained love for medium Cokes from McDonald’s, and interviews with her annoyed maid Lettie, are hilarious to me. She reminds me a lot of comedian Tig Notaro.” – Ben, copywriter
“Amy Sedaris’s account is a favorite of mine. She does a great job of curating the weird. I was a big fan of “Strangers with Candy” and feel like she’s always pushing the boundaries of art and comedy.” – Tim, designer
“Oleg Artemyev, a Russian cosmonaut whose gorgeous photographs of our planet stop me mid-scroll every time. The language barrier adds an extra layer of mystery for me. What does Oleg think about? I have to wonder, as this man orbited far above us, awestruck by the incredible beauty of Earth from afar, if that unwelcome old t.A.T.u song ever popped into his head. It is probably much easier to forgive from hundreds of miles above. I don’t know. Ours is a beautiful planet.” – Margaret, editorial assistant
“I love pens and ink and stamps and paper. London’s Present and Correct is an item-by-item catalog of all of the things I want on my desk.” – Dave, director of business development
“If I’m truly being honest, my favorite Instagram account is Marnie The Dog. She’s pretty much a household name now that needs no introduction, but in case you’ve been living under a rock, she’s a senior Shih Tzu rescue dog with a rather quirky and unique look. Basically, I just love her more than words can describe. I’m the proud stepdad of another very unique senior rescue dog, which is why Marnie is so near and dear to my heart, I think. She cracks me up.” – Ryan, designer
