Dispatch: Street Food in Amsterdam
So many streets, so much food!
Amsterdam is perhaps the most pedestrian-friendly city in the world, thus making street food vendors as ubiquitous as parking spaces are in America. Everywhere you turn, there’s another stand at which to get a snack, beverage, meal or bag of groceries. And everything is of really high quality, especially the fresh, sashimi-grade fish…just hanging outside on a bed of crushed ice.
These are just a few snapshots of the food I’ve encountered while on food, from the nearby Albert Cuypmarkt, which is open six days a week, every week of the year, to the monthly Museum Market on the Museumplein parkway, to just the regular old neighborhood bakery stands.
One thing is for sure—hold onto something, brace yourself—I do not miss Wegmans.
