Marketing a Country, Ja!
The Swedish Tourist Association gave the entire country of Sweden its own phone number and they want you to call it.
When you call, a random Swede answers. It’s an innovative marketing technique to get people thinking and talking about Sweden as a possible vacation destination.
It is also a celebration of Sweden’s 250-year abolishment of censorship. Basically being one of the first countries on the planet to introduce free speech.
The website, theswedishnumber.com, is slick and constantly updated with information and data tracked from people calling in. It’s a great way to view progress and success of this campaign live.
I wonder if they’re just called “meatballs” in Sweden? I might just have to make a call and find out.
