They say print is dead, but I am interested in the way that The New York Times has been keeping up with the future of digital journalism by using innovative and interactive technology to stay relevant to the short attention spans prevalent in our prevalent in our tl;dr culture.
The Times has introduced a new augmented reality feature on their mobile app that accesses your phone’s camera and transforms it into a portal into a new world. The surroundings should be familiar, but on your coffee table, or in your living room, you can virtually walk around a figure skater suspended mid-air, for example.
It will be interesting to see how this technology shapes the future of news publishing, especially when all the news that’s fit to print is no longer printed.
