The Importance of Authenticity on Social Media
As I was scrolling through my Facebook feed the other day, I came across a Q&A with Connor Blakely posted by Adweek. Connor Blakely is an 18-year-old marketer that has worked with top brands such as the NHL, Spring and Johnson & Johnson. Since he was 14, he has helped businesses utilize social media and target a younger generation.
Blakely makes some key points throughout the article about the importance of authenticity on social media and how to target Generation Z. He gives his insights on how companies should be handling their social media and why relevant content is so important. Blakely gives a nod to Wendy’s, which is “killing” the social media game, and a jab at Under Armor for not understanding its target market.
For any company on social media, it’s extremely important to stay relevant, engage with the community, and get creative with the types of content that are being produced. The amazing thing about social media is that there are so many opportunities to connect not only with a customer but with an influencer that could give your brand the credibility needed to go to the next level.
Although each business has a different set of hurdles to jump when it comes to targeting audiences, it’s eye-opening to see how fast the marketplace has changed in such a short time and how quickly companies have to be willing to adapt.
