When Big Ditch Brewing Company decided to expand its facility and open a new brewery and tap room in downtown Buffalo, they called upon Block Club to re-think their popular brand. Their new location was one of the city’s most anticipated openings in 2015, and once opened, would position them to become a widely known, visible craft beer brand. They wanted something big and comprehensive. Our work began with their visual identity design. We retained their signature shovel, an icon of their Erie Canal-based brand story. The brewery’s guiding tagline announces its brand values (“Strength, Pride, Ambition: The spirit of the Erie Canal.”) and contains the logo. From there, we developed a variety of collateral materials—dinner and drink menus, matchboxes, postcards, coasters, t-shirts and growlers, embellished with old Erie Canal maps and an embossed water pattern. A newly designed website reveals the fresh, new approach. We designed and developed a number of experiential and interior design elements, like a two-story mural announcing their core brand values. Additional murals throughout the interior and exterior invite guests to interact with the spaces and share on social media. Finally, Block Club consulted with Big Ditch to help their staff deliver a complete customer brand experience.
