The Block Club brand was born in early winter 2007, when a small team of our earliest team members built the prototype for a free, bimonthly magazine to tell positive stories of Buffalo’s budding growth—with interviews, feature stories, product spreads, photography and design, and many collaborations with area artists and designers. It sold advertising to locally owned businesses, a move which helped drive business to their brands, many of which were family run. The magazine’s sudden success birthed Block Club’s agency, which today is one of the region’s leading branding and strategy agencies, and one of the region’s fastest growing companies. In 2012, Block Club magazine transitioned to a quarterly format and received a complete redesign; its new editorial approach added storytelling from around the Rust Belt. In 2015, Block Club published the last issue of its magazine after 40 issues and eight years, reflecting the needs and interests of the bustling agency.
