A celebration of legacy.

When filmmaker John Paget created a short film celebrating Buffalo’s visionary urban design legacy—one that lead America’s greatest landscape architect, Fredrick Law Olmsted, to call Buffalo “the best planned city in America, if not the world”—John trusted Block Club to develop an identity design and website, including a logo to be featured in the film. With a nod to the contagious excitement that has overtaken this Rust Belt city on the rise, Block Club designed a fresh and energetic logo, a simplified interpretation of the converging waters of Lake Erie and the Niagara River, Joseph Ellicott’s radial and grid street system, and Olmsted’s park system. At the center stands Olmsted’s signature lamppost. A simple, responsive single-page website with intuitive navigation made home viewing easy, placing full focus on John’s film. “America’s Best Designed City” premiered at Buffalo’s Larkinville to a wildly receptive audience—members of Buffalo’s growing cadre of activists, entrepreneurs and innovators celebrating those of Buffalo’s inspiring past.
