Argyle

Building the brand that defines a category

Argyle built a better way to verify consumer income and employment, but it didn't have the language or brand authority to make that difference legible. Block Club built the messaging foundation and verbal identity that turned Argyle's data model into a market position. We anchored it on a term the industry now uses by default—“consumer-permissioned direct-source verification,” and built the always-on content system that generated demand while compounding authority. Today, Argyle is recognized for leading the category it helped name.

What we did

  • Positioning & messaging
  • Brand identity & design
  • Content systems & campaigns
  • Website strategy & design
  • AEO/SEO

%%Giving%% a new category %%its language%%

Working alongside Argyle's leadership, we built the messaging foundation and verbal identity that turned a data model into a market position: direct-source income and employment verification as the modern, consumer-permissioned alternative to the legacy credit bureau model.

We made that contrast the spine of Argyle’s story—real-time versus stale, permissioned versus purchased, straight from the system of record versus brokered—and gave Argyle one consistent way to say it across every audience and use case, from mortgage to tenant screening to background checks.

The language became widely adopted. "Direct-source" is now the term the market, Argyle's partners, and the trade press all reach for to describe the category.

"We have seen the overwhelming success of our verbal identity refresh on only the first draft. Operating as an integrated team, Block Club gets us. They are a partner we can count on to deliver."
Megan Marks
Former VP of Marketing

%%A content system built to%% set the standard

Owning a category takes more than sound messaging standards. It takes showing up consistently and authoritatively everywhere buyers look.

As Argyle's agency of record, we built the content system that made it the most articulate voice in its space. Our work included SEO-informed thought leadership, a case study library spanning every vertical, website journeys built to convert a multi-persona buying committee, plus sales enablement, social, paid, and PR. The system built authority while generating demand. In one nine-month stretch, Argyle credited our work with a 157% increase in blog views, a 92% increase in visitors, and an 88% increase in backlinks.

The proof: %%a recognized category leader%%

Today, the category Argyle helped name is one it's now recognized for leading. Argyle was the first authorized report supplier to deliver consumer-permissioned, direct-source verification reports through Fannie Mae's Desktop Underwriter; is an approved provider for Freddie Mac's Asset and Income Modeler (AIM); and CB Insights names Argyle a leader in income and employment verification among eleven companies, including Equifax, Plaid, and Atomic.

The bottom line

Argyle built a better way to verify. Block Club helped build the brand that made Argyle the name for the new approach. And in an era where the underlying technology gets easier to replicate every year, owning the language, the authority, and the mindshare of the category remains a durable advantage.
