Prose is a direct-to-consumer (DTC) beauty-tech company leading the way in consumer packaged goods by providing personalized skin and hair care products through made-to-order formulas. 
The technology behind Prose’s explosive growth is Singular: a cloud-based software solution that facilitates the development, branding, sales, manufacturing, and distribution of custom beauty lines. Using Singular’s AI-enhanced platform, Prose produces up to 30,000 prepaid, bespoke items daily. The result is a sustainable system with zero wasted product—and a new paradigm for the beauty supply chain. 

Challenge

As they embarked on a new chapter in their growth journey, Prose aimed to establish Singular as a unique B2B technology brand for both current and prospective partners. They sought a brand identity for Singular that would clearly highlight the “tech” asset developed since 2017, while still aligning with their core mission in beauty under the Prose Brand.

Arnaud Plas, co-founder and CEO of Prose, is no stranger to blending beauty and technology. The former VP of digital at L’Oreal wanted to create separation between the Prose DTC consumer brand and the Singular identity, while anchoring Singular in Prose’s overall success story.

To communicate Singular’s unique market position, they also needed to introduce the brand’s four integrated modules to investors: 

  • Singular ID analyzes a customer’s beauty needs and goals.
  • Singular AI Labs transforms customer data into personalized formulas and routines, collecting ongoing feedback to optimize results.
  • Singular Commerce powers front- and back-end commerce operations using an API-based architecture.
  • Singular Lines manufactures unique, made-to-order products and delivers them to a customers’ door.

Each module had to be carefully accounted for and then used to show investors on either side of beauty and tech how the two brands work together.

Solution

Prose partnered with Block Club to create a new visual identity for Singular that bridged the gap between the B2B tech and DTC beauty realms.

Block Club’s design team created a logo system and supporting visual identity assets—from icons and illustrations to a website and launch video—to capture and communicate the feel of the Singular brand, breaking a complex technical subject matter into approachable marketing materials. 

Block Club’s design team made every letter count when creating Singular’s logo. We established primary typography that was humanist and approachable while evoking Singular’s platform. Crisp linework and edges communicated scientific detail, while start and endpoints evoked the end-to-end nature of their solution.

To overcome the challenge of visually rooting Singular in Prose, we applied the signature “r” from the Prose wordmark into Singular’s typography design. The period at the end of the wordmark acts as another reference: a singular dot moving in orbit along the circle’s path. By using fresh but muted colors, we were able to complement Prose as a beauty brand while leaning into a more contemporary, tech-inspired feel.
