Following the success of our work on The Grange Community Kitchen, restaurateurs Caryn Dujanovich and Brad Rowell, alongside chef and co-owner Anthony Petrilli, once again approached Block Club to brand their next venture: West Rose, a seasonally driven restaurant in Ellicottville, New York. Opening for the 2019-2020 season in this charming ski town just south of Buffalo, West Rose needed an identity that captured the restaurant’s fresh, modern approach to food while reflecting its natural surroundings.
Our challenge was to create a brand identity that stood out in Ellicottville’s spirited dining scene, differentiated West Rose from The Grange, and felt welcoming to guests from all walks of life.
Collaborating closely with the owners, we developed a visual identity that embodies the restaurant’s connection to nature and the owners’ vision for a bright, convivial gathering place. We started with a logo system that features modern sans serif lettering, playful in its varying widths and proportions. This touch of whimsy aligned perfectly with the restaurant’s elevated-casual tone, conveying a sense of approachability and comfort.
The natural world informed much of the design. We created bespoke artwork for an interior mural that blends geometric and human forms in a palette of dusty pinks, clay, gold, and mossy green. This artwork also carries through the brand’s menus and stationery, which are printed on natural, pulpy-textured paper, further emphasizing the connection to the earthy, clean aesthetic of the restaurant.

West Rose’s design, including two outdoor spaces and interior elements that incorporate wood and organic shapes, mirrors the peaceful yet vibrant outdoor activities that draw people to Ellicottville. With its cozy, warm atmosphere and striking, nature-inspired brand, West Rose has become a welcoming retreat in a town known for its winter wonderland appeal.
